This question came in today and I thought I would answer it here because it applies to everyone who is working at home.
I have a business I am building from home, and I'm thinking about adding another one. I just found another company that I like although their products are very similar to the company I'm with right now. What's your opinion about building two businesses at once?
You're on the right track by building multiple streams of income for yourself. This is what has made all the difference to me in being able to work from home successfully. One of the things I learned the hard way is that it works better if your different income streams complement each other. My primary business is Melaleuca and that brings in a large amount of money every month. Because not everyone I meet is going to want to enroll with me to build a Melaleuca business, but they do want to build some kind of business; I offer a book on attraction marketing (how to have prospects coming to you instead of you chasing them) a training course on high-powered recruiting and a system that generates tons of targeted traffic and provides awesome online tools everyone needs to build their business. I am also a freelance writer, because everyone needs content for blogs, websites, autoresponders, white papers, etc.
If a person isn't interested in my primary business, odds are they will be interested in one of my other offerings because no matter what business someone is building, they need to be able to generate content, market, recruit, generate traffic and manage follow ups. Because all of this is very time consuming to sift and sort through everything available, having it all in one place for them is a huge time saver and these are all the things I use in my own primary business, so I know first hand that they work.
So as you build your income streams, ask yourself what would make sense to include. It works best if the secondary streams are things that can almost run on autopilot because most of your time and energy needs to go into your primary business
